Breastfeeding support group launched
UPMC Magee-Womens at UPMC Altoona is starting a breastfeeding support group called Breastfeeding Connections.
The group’s first session will be held from 11 a.m. to noon Monday at the Altoona Area Public Library, 1600 Fifth Ave., Altoona.
Following sessions will be held on the first Monday of each month at the same time and location and on the third Monday of each month from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
The group won’t meet on federal holidays.
At the sessions, “new mothers can meet and learn about breastfeeding and parenting in a relaxed environment,” states a hospital news release. “Information and professional guidance will be provided by international board-certified lactation consultants,” according to the news release.

Breastfeeding offers many health benefits, supplies the right balance of nutrients for babies and helps mothers recover from giving birth, according to the news release.
‘Soup-er Sunday’ sale scheduled
Catholic War Veterans will hold its annual “Soup-er Sunday” soup sale from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2, at 290 Valley Ave., Altoona.
It will include soups, basket raffles, baked goods and more. Proceeds will benefit Families United For Change.
Kephart’s district office to move
State Rep. Dallas Kephart, R-Cambria/Clearfield, announced that his Clearfield district office will temporarily be closed while moving to a new location. Currently located at 315 E. Market St., Clearfield, his new office will be located at 14 S. Front St., Clearfield, at the former Clearfield Borough Police Department.
The new location has more accessible parking, Kephart said. It will open at 8:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 10.
