Schmitt to enter race for judge

State Representative Lou Schmitt will announce his candidacy for Blair County Court of Common Pleas Judge at 5:30 p.m. today at the Railroaders Memorial Museum.

Many citizens of Blair County have asked Schmitt to come home from the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in Harrisburg in order to be their judge, according to a campaign news release.

“I want you to know I have heard your calls and I have listened,” Schmitt said. “I will be a candidate for Blair County Judge and I’m asking for your support as I come home to help all of Blair County.”

Schmitt is a native of Blair County, and a graduate of Saint Francis University and the University of New Hampshire School of Law. Prior to being elected as State Representative in 2018, Schmitt worked as a lawyer for the citizens of Blair County for more than three decades.

As a lawyer, his tenacious protection of the legal rights and his dedication to law and order led him to be recognized by Law and Politics Magazine as a Pennsylvania Super Lawyer. As a State Representative, Schmitt has been committed to public safety and law and order as top priorities. Mayor Richard Brantner of Martinsburg said, “That’s why Lou Schmitt will be the perfect judge for us and our communities.”

Considering his strong “law and order” record, former Sheriff Mitch Cooper remarked, “Once again, there are two judge vacancies in Blair County. I can tell you that’s not good for ‘law and order’ here in our county. Lou Schmitt has been an outstanding state representative and now we need Lou to come home to be our judge. It’s the right thing for Lou to do.”
