A Cumberland, Md., man accused of stealing nearly $3,000 worth of tools from a Hyndman garage in October is behind bars in Bedford County after failing to post $250,000 bail.

Cory Joseph Crabtree, 33, was arraigned Thursday before Magisterial District Judge Tonya M. Osman on felony charges of burglary, criminal trespass and theft. His preliminary arraignment is set for Jan. 29 in Bedford County Central Court.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, state police responded Oct. 16 to a theft on the 100 block of Treasure Road, Londonderry Township. There the victim reported that more than a dozen tools were taken from his garage sometime overnight. The tools ranged from a chain saw to circular saws and related charges and batteries.

During the investigation, the victim's girlfriend posted about the missing tools on Facebook and was contacted by the ex-wife of Galen Lee Garrison, 48, who said Garrison bragged about the theft.

The ex-wife provided the victim's girlfriend with photos that matched the tools taken, police reported.

Maryland state police found Garrison at his Frostburg, Md., home, where they received permission to search the home. During the search, police located two of the stolen items, the report states.

Garrison was interviewed by state police at Bedford on Oct. 25. During the interview, he told police Crabtree told him he had tools at a residence where some "crazy lady lived" and he wanted to go retrieve the tools. Garrison drove to the home and he and Crabtree walked through the woods to the garage, where Crabtree went in a window and opened the door for Garrison, the report states.

After taking the tools, the two went to Garrison's home, where Crabtree sorted the tools and took photos to advertise them for sale, Garrison told police. He said Crabtree sold most of the tools for $300 to an unknown man named Donnie. Crabtree kept all of the money, Garrison said.

The remaining tools, a chainsaw and a battery charger, were at Garrison's home, the report states, noting Garrison wanted to return those items.

Online court documents show that Garrison also faces felony charges of burglary, criminal trespass and theft in relation to the case. He was arraigned on Oct. 25 and jailed in lieu of $250,000 bail. The charges were waived to court on Nov. 6 and bail was modified to "unsecured by agreement," according to the docket filed in the case.

Garrison's formal arraignment is set for Jan. 23 in Courtroom 1 with President Judge Travis W. Livengood.
