City residents plead guilty to meth trafficking charges
Two city residents pleaded guilty to drug-trafficking charges in Johnstown federal court.
The pleas come following a six-month Title III wiretap investigation into narcotics trafficking in Blair, Cambria, Centre and Clearfield counties, according to a Department of Justice release.
Tonya Settlemyer, 39, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine, while Andrew Stowell, 67, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine and possession with intent to distribute and distribution of 50 grams or more of methamphetamine.
Both pleaded before United States District Judge Stephanie L. Haines.
According to the release, Stowell sold methamphetamine to an undercover officer on Dec. 12, 2022, while Settlemyer assisted an Altoona dealer who distributed meth throughout the Western District of Pennsylvania.
The law provides for a total sentence of up to 20 years of imprisonment, a fine of up to $1 million or both for Settlemyer, and not less than 10 years in prison, a fine of up to $10 million or both for Stowell.
Sentencing for both has been set for May 15 before Haines.
Settlemyer remains in prison, while Stowell is out on bond pending sentencing.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Jonathan D. Lusty is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government.
