Kraus accused of stealing $1,420 worth of toys from Walmart

A Maryland man faces charges in Bedford County after allegedly stealing $1,420 worth of Lego toys from a local Walmart in August 2023.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, state police were dispatched on Aug. 22, 2023, to Walmart, 72 Bedford Square, Everett, for a retail theft.

A Walmart asset protection associate told police that on the morning of Aug. 20, an unknown man loaded a cart full of Lego sets and exited the store without paying. The associate said that during a chat with other asset protection associates, he learned of a suspect named Corey Kraus from Maryland who allegedly had been involved with 20 other similar events at different Walmarts, with toys being the targeted items stolen.

During the investigation, police found Kraus had a recent license out of Louisiana and were able to match his photo with surveillance footage from Walmart, the report states.

While charges against the 31-year-old Kraus were filed Jan. 29, 2024, he was not arraigned until Thursday before Magisterial District Judge Wendy R. Mellott. He faces one felony charge of retail theft. Bail was set at $15,000.

Online court documents show Kraus is being held at the Greensburg prison.

Kraus also faces charges in Cumberland, Md. Those charges include felony retail theft and conspiracy retail theft, along with a misdemeanor charge of corruption of minors. Those charges stem from an incident in early 2024.

In addition, Kraus faces charges in two cases in York dating from 2023 and 2024, both for retail theft and corruption of minors. The York cases remain inactive.
