Photo scanning day scheduled

At its most recent meeting, the Coalport Area Museum Commission decided to hold a “Community Scanning Day” from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10, at the museum, with a goal of increasing the museum’s collection of historic photos and news articles of the area.

The event is made possible by the donation of a new high-resolution scanner by Indiana University of Pennsylvania professor Mark Piwinsky.

Local individuals are urged to bring in their personal albums with any pictures of the Glendale Valley villages, buildings, postcards, obituaries, family bibles, wedding announcements, local organizations, etc.

That allows the coal museum to be stewards of local cultural history as it organizes, titles and stores this digital data to periodically add to a comprehensive compendium.

The next meeting of the Coalport Area Museum Commission is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, at a site to be determined.

Little Juniata River meeting set

The Little Juniata River Association has scheduled its next public meeting for 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 14 at Marzoni’s, 1830 Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona.

The guest speaker for the evening will be Penny Ayers, chief of the Division of Public Access and Property Services of the state Fish and Boating Commission.

Starting at $3.83/week.
