A Boswell woman is accused of escape and related charges after allegedly trying to flee from police to avoid apprehension on two active felony arrest warrants.
Dana Anne Nemchik, 31, was arraigned Monday by Magisterial District Judge Benjamin F. Jones on single felony counts of flight to avoid apprehension and escape, two misdemeanor counts of evading arrest, as well as single misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, false identification, DUI and possession of drug paraphernalia. Unable to post $50,000 bail, she was remanded to the Blair County Prison.
Officers were dispatched to the 2100 block of 11th Street about 10:53 a.m. on Sunday for a report of two people passed out in a vehicle. Once on scene, officers found a parked vehicle with the driver slumped over holding a snorting straw. The officer also saw a glass smoking pipe and burnt tin foil in the center console of the vehicle, according to the affidavit of probable cause.
When the vehicle's driver and passenger were shaken awake, the driver, later identified as Nemchik, said she had passed out due to consuming marijuana. Nemchik provided officers with a fake name and birth date, which they were unable to verify. Nemchik then tried to provide a different birth date, at which point officers told her she was under official police investigation, court documents state.
When Nemchik was confronted with being dishonest about her identity, she fled past an officer, who grabbed her by her jacket. Nemchik then slipped out of the jacket before continuing to attempt to flee and being restrained by other officers, police records state.
Nemchik was taken into custody and her proper identity was confirmed. She was found to have a felony warrant through Pennsylvania State Police and a second felony warrant through probation and parole. She admitted to trying to flee because she knew she had these active warrants. Nemchik also consented to give blood and informed officers that a blood test would show heroin and fentanyl because she had consumed both substances about five hours beforehand, according to the affidavit.
Nemchik is scheduled for a preliminary hearing in front of Magisterial District Judge Daniel C. DeAntonio on Oct. 16.
