Blair sheriff’s office issues a scam alert

In a press release, the Blair County Sheriff’s Office said it has received reports of a scam call circulating in the community.

The release states that the reports detail a male caller — identifying himself as a Deputy with the Sheriff’s Office — who claims that the recipient of the call has missed jury duty and now has a warrant out for their arrest. The caller then gives details on how to pay a fee to settle the warrant, also mentioning personal information about the recipient and a case number.

Caller identification comes up as the Sheriff’s Office so it is difficult to spot the call as an imposter right away. The Sheriff’s Office clarified in the release that it will never present an option to resolve a warrant or paperwork over the phone. No monetary transactions will ever be offered over the phone by the office. The Sheriff’s Office requests that if someone receives one of these calls to report it to a local police department.
