Household waste collection set

IRC event to take place Saturday at Jaffa Shrine

From Mirror staff reports

The Intermunicipal Relations Committee will collect household hazardous waste from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 27, at the Jaffa Shrine.

Pre-registration at ircenvironment.org is required, although there’s no need to print tickets to show at the event.

While pre-registration is free, off-loading of hazardous materials is not: There is a $20 base charge per vehicle, with an additional charge of 50 cents per pound for paint.

Payment is by cash or check only.

The organizers are collecting only:

— fluorescent bulbs and tubes

— automotive fluids like used motor oil, antifreeze, oil filters, etc.

— pesticides and fertilizers

— flammables and corrosives like paint thinner and drain cleaner

— aerosol cans

— latex, oil-based and spray paint.

The organizers are not collecting medications, batteries, electronics, smoke detectors, thermostats, explosives, ammunition or tires.

Attendees should place the materials they want to recycle in car trunks or truck beds, and should stay in their vehicles while on-site.

The organization is recruiting volunteers for the event.

Anyone willing to volunteer should call 814-942-7472 or email education@ircenvironment.org.

Starting at $2.99/week.
