The Pittsburgh Pirates and Altoona-based Sheetz announced a multi-year partnership Friday in which the convenience store chain will serve as the club’s first jersey patch partner.
As part of the partnership, Sheetz will have its logo featured on the sleeves of Pirates home and away jerseys.
Pirates players and front office leadership joined Sheetz executives during an on-field press conference at PNC Park on Friday morning to make the announcement about the three-year deal, and the logos were on the jerseys for Friday night’s game with Tampa Bay.
“The city of Pittsburgh has been an essential part of the growth of Sheetz for more than 40 years,” Sheetz President/CEO Travis Sheetz said. “We are so excited to take our partnership with the Pirates to the next level with this new jersey patch. Like the Pirates, we are dedicated to giving back to our communities and providing great experiences for our customers in Western Pennsylvania and beyond. That is why this partnership makes perfect sense.”
The sponsorship agreement looks to solidify Sheetz as an iconic staple of the western Pennsylvania region while raising national brand recognition, Travis Sheetz said.

This strategic partnership will feature marketing efforts and collaborations that will engage Pirates fans and Sheetz enthusiasts, including ballpark signage, in-game activations and unique social and digital content.
“We are thrilled to expand our partnership with Sheetz and the Sheetz family,” said Bob Nutting, Pirates chairman of the board.
“Like the Pirates, Sheetz is an iconic local brand that is a part of everyday life in Pittsburgh and throughout the western Pennsylvania region,” Nutting said. “Sheetz is a family-owned company that shares in our strong commitment to making a positive impact in the lives of others in our community. Sheetz is the perfect partner to be featured on our first-ever jersey patch.”
Pirates fans can purchase jerseys incorporating the Sheetz patch at the Pirates Clubhouse Store at PNC Park. All Nike Elite jerseys sold at the Pirates Clubhouse Store will include the Sheetz patch, while fans purchasing the Nike Limited jerseys, blank or customized, will have the option to add on the Sheetz patch for a cost of $10.
A core tenant of the partnership will be the focus on community engagement and various community-based initiatives and activations developed by the Pirates and Sheetz.

The organizations share an interest in supporting local youth teams and various nonprofit organizations, and through the partnership, the Pirates and Sheetz will look to amplify their collective support of those efforts.
Sheetz supports more than 25 youth baseball and softball teams in Allegheny and countless in surrounding counties.
As part of Friday’s announcement, the two organizations came together to host a youth baseball team from Moon Little League at a local Sheetz for a “Sheetz Run” experience with Pirates players Colin Holderman and Oneil Cruz as well as the Pirates mascots.
The group was treated to an in-store shopping experience where everyone selected Sheetz treats before enjoying their snacks in an outdoor picnic setting where the Little League players got to ask some of their favorite Pirates questions and spend one-on-one time with them.
Sheetz was founded as a small family business in 1952 when Bob Sheetz purchased one of his father’s dairy stores in Altoona. After 70 years, the company serves more than 1.5 million customers a day across Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio and North Carolina.
Sheetz operates more than 730 store locations and employs over 25,000 people.
