Bellwood library to host events
The Adventure Begins at Your Library Summer Quest is the Bellwood-Antis Public Library’s summer reading and activity program designed to keep kids reading, moving and learning.
Registrations begin Monday, June 10. Participants can earn prizes by completing a reading log and an activity log.
— Other events at the library in June include a scavenger hunt that can be completed anytime the library is open: 1 to 8 p.m. Monday to Thursday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. This month’s hunt teaches participants the early history of Juneteenth and spotlights books about the holiday and African American history in the library’s collection. Kids can search, find and win prizes.
— Summer Family Fun Nights begin at 6:30 p.m. Monday, June 10, and continue every Monday through July 15. There will be stories, crafts and general library fun. Family Fun Nights are optimized for kids ages 5 and older. Younger children are welcome, but will need help from a grown-up or older child to complete craft activities. Family Fun Night is free, and no sign-ups are needed; adults are asked to stay with their child during the program.
— Toddler Tuesday is a toddler-sized storytime for children ages 18 months to 3 years, followed by an informal playgroup in the library’s children’s room. Toddler Tuesdays are held at 6:30 p.m. June 11-July 30.
— The Bellwood-Antis Historical Society meets at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 12, for a special presentation in honor of Pennsylvania Women’s Veterans Day. Local women veterans will present personal histories and local nurses who served during the Civil War and World War II will be honored and discussed.
— Local artist Janet Lantz will be on hand at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 12, to help participants paint a gift for Dad — or bring him along for family fun. Call the library to register or message the library on Facebook. Cost is a $30 materials fee per person. Visit the library’s Facebook event page at facebook.com/events/2410164962507049 to see the painting.
— Local author Matthew Stich will read his book “The Lickiest Dog” during the Family Fun Night at 6:30 p.m. Monday, June 17. Licky dog crafts to follow the storytime.
— Children ages 5 and up are invited to take part in an evening of Lego freestyling from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 20. No signs up are needed; adults are asked to stay in the library while children build.
— Children and their families are invited to meet the most famous turtles in Blair County while learning more about Pennsylvania’s favorite reptile at a special Family Fun Night at 6:30 p.m. Monday, June 24, presented by the Blair County Conservation District.
— The Friends of the Bellwood-Antis Public Library will meet at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 27. The group helps the library with fundraisers, programs and day-to-day operations at the library.
