Juniata to host parade
A Memorial Day parade will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday, May 27, in Juniata. The parade will start at North Eighth Street and North Fourth Avenue and travel to North Fifth Street to North Sixth Avenue to North Second Street to North 11th Avenue to Broadway, and continue to the Juniata ballfield. A service will be held at B.A. Good VFW Post 8685. Residents and paradegoers are asked to remove vehicles from the parade route.
Lakemont Lions hold service
The Lakemont Lions Club will hold its annual Memorial Day service at its Veterans Monument, Lake and Shand avenues.
The service will start at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 25. There will be a flag service, speaker, wreath laying and bugler.
Those attending are urged to bring chairs for seating.
Military services planned
The Memorial Day Military Services on Monday, May 27, 2024, for Carrolltown, St. Benedict, and Bakerton/Elmora are as follows: Carrolltown Legion Memorial at 10 a.m.; St. Benedict Memorial at 10:30 a.m.; and Bakerton/Elmora Memorial at 11 a.m.
Altoona hosts parade
The 2024 Memorial Day parade will be held May 27 in downtown Altoona. All veterans are invited to participate. All non-veteran groups are welcome as well.
Lineup is at 10 a.m. at the parking lots by Stevens Mortuary, 1421 Eighth Ave. Parade step-off will be at 10:30 a.m. After the parade, a service will be held downtown at 11th Avenue and 14th Street.

Hollidaysburg parade set
Memorial Day ceremonies begin with the 9:30 a.m. service by the Daughters of the American Revolution at the bridge at Allegheny Street and North Juniata Street. The parade begins at 10 a.m. and proceeds along Allegheny Street to Union, to Walnut, to Montgomery and back to the Diamond for the ceremonies. Guest speaker is Commander Jim Barconi, U.S. Navy, retired. Music will be provided by the Hollidaysburg Area High School band.
Patton parade scheduled
The Patton Memorial Day parade will be held at 9 a.m. Monday, May 27. The parade will be led by local veterans, and include Cambria Heights High School band, Patton Volunteer Fire Company and various youth groups. The veterans will visit eight cemeteries along with the memorial at Patton Park. Rifle salutes and taps will be played to honor those who have served their country in war and peace. The final ceremonies will be held in front of the VFW Post 779 and the American Legion Post 614.
Claysburg services set
The Claysburg American Legion will conduct memorial services at a number of cemeteries on Sunday, May 26. This will be the Legion’s 90th annual Memorial Day Program. Services will be held at 1:15 p.m. at Sproul; 1:35 p.m., King; 2:05 p.m., Imler; 2:25 p.m., Greenfield; 2:50 p.m., Lower Klahr; 3:10 p.m., Upper Klahr; and 3:45 p.m., Mt. Hope.
At 10 a.m. Monday, May 27, the Legion will host a Memorial Day program at Union Cemetery. The program includes music, readings, hymns, guest speaker Pastor Steve Brumbaugh of Altoona Restoration Church, salute to departed comrades and taps. Those attending should bring chairs for seating. In case of rain, the service will be held in Christ Lutheran Church.
