A Duncansville man is behind bars after allegedly entering his ex-girlfriend's home, taking her phone and struggling with her over a backpack.
Michael Joseph Lattieri, 42, was arraigned Wednesday night before Magisterial District Judge Matthew Dunio on felony charges of burglary, robbery and escape, along with misdemeanor charges of recklessly endangering another person, simple assault, resisting arrest, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession with intent to deliver and a summary charge of harassment.
Unable to post $250,000 bail, he was remanded to the Blair County Prison. His preliminary hearing is set for May 8 before Magisterial District Judge Daniel C. DeAntonio.
According to court documents, the incident occurred about 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at a home on the 600 block of North 10th Avenue. The victim called Altoona police after she was surprised by her ex-boyfriend while she was taking a shower. She told police Lattieri entered the bathroom and took her phone. She found him downstairs using her phone, took it from him and placed it in her backpack. Lattieri then grabbed the backpack and attempted to pull it from her arms. That caused the victim to be thrown onto a chair and table, the report states. Lattieri fled the home when the victim said she was calling the police.
Inside the backpack was a loaded Smith & Wesson handgun belonging to the victim, the report states. She suffered a large bruise during the struggle. The victim also told police she believed Lattieri had a door key made without her knowledge.
Police found Lattieri in the Bishop Guilfoyle parking lot, where he admitted to the struggle with the victim, court documents state. He also stated he used a key to enter her home. After he was taken into custody and handcuffed, Lattieri ran from police through the parking lot. He was quickly captured, though he continued to pull away from officers. While being searched, police found a pipe and a small amount of suspected crack cocaine.
According to online court documents, Lattieri has a lengthy criminal history dating back to 2000.
