HOLLIDAYSBURG -- Tuesday's primary election was quiet, said Sarah Seymour, Blair County director of elections.
While voter turnout was extremely slow, from what Seymour heard, there was some confusion from voters in the 79th District, who expected to see Jim Gregory and challenger Scott Barger on their ballots, due to the influx of signs and advertisements about the race.
That confusion led to several phone calls to the elections office, she said, noting those voters were told their representative is Lou Schmitt, whose seat was not being contested.
Two legislative districts can be found in Blair County, with the 79th District comprised of the City of Altoona, Allegheny and Logan Townships, along with the Blair County portion of Tunnelhill Borough. The remainder of Blair County is in the 80th District.
Other than that confusion, Seymour said the "whole day has been quiet" and there were no issues.
While unofficial election results have been posted on the county's website, Seymour said those numbers do not include the remainder of the mail-in ballots or the military ballots.
Military members have until 5 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, to turn in their ballots.
The Board of Elections also has to go through about 5,661 mail-in ballots, Seymour said.
"If any part of the date, the whole date, the signature, if that was missing, those (ballots) were pulled," Seymour said.
It will then be up to the board if the ballots are ultimately accepted, she said.
"The Board of Elections looks at them individually," Seymour said. "Every ballot is different."
Tuesday's voter turnout was 30.15% with Republicans showing up to the polls more than Democrats, 33.62% to 21.69%, results show.
Blair County has 67,657 registered voters, of those, 19,698 are registered as Democrats and 47,959 as Republicans.
With 93 of 93 precincts reporting, unofficial results showed that there were a total of 20,397 in-person ballots cast, with Democratic voters casting 4,272 votes and Republicans voters, 16,125.
