UPMC Altoona and UPMC Bedford President Jan Fisher is retiring.

“(Fisher’s) official last day with UPMC will be June 30, but she has begun to transition responsibilities,” a UPMC spokesperson stated in an email response to a Mirror request for information.

UPMC has started a “comprehensive” search for Fisher’s successor, according to the spokesperson.

Vice President of Operations Mike Corso is serving as interim president of the two local hospitals during that search, the spokesperson said.

Fisher became president of the two hospitals in January 2019, after serving as their chief operations officer.

Corso

She succeeded Jerry Murray as president.

Prior to becoming president, Fisher had 36 years of experience in hospital operations.

She was previously chief operations officer at UPMC Susquehanna, executive vice president and chief operations officer at Laurel Health System and president and CEO of Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital.

Corso became vice president of operations at UPMCs Altoona and Bedford near the beginning of 2017.

He began working for UPMC Altoona predecessor Mercy Hospital as a college intern in 1994.

As vice president of operations, Corso has been responsible for hiring and firing, budgeting, strategic planning and general financial analysis for radiology, cardiology, radiation oncology, respiratory, physical medicine, the Breast Health Center and the Heart and Vascular Institute.

The hospital didn’t immediately provide additional information requested about the changeover.
