The Pennsylvania Lottery will upgrade to a new computer system next week and the transition may impact players' ability to purchase tickets, though drawings will continue.
Lottery officials said the transition will briefly impact the ability to buy certain tickets and to cash winning tickets. The transition is expected to take less than a day.
"The Pennsylvania Lottery is working to upgrade vending equipment, improve our technology, and debut many new features that will improve the playing experience for our players -- and this upgrade is one part of that effort," said Secretary of Revenue Pat Browne, who heads the Pennsylvania Lottery.
The system upgrade is scheduled to start after midnight on Monday, March 18, and will continue until late into the day Tuesday, March 19. The Lottery will post updates on its website and social media channels to inform players when this work is complete.
During this time period, drawings will still occur, but players won't be able to buy Fast Play tickets or Draw Game tickets at Lottery retail locations or online. Draw Games include Powerball, Mega Millions, Treasure Hunt, Cash 5 with Quick Cash, Match 6 Lotto, Cash4Life and the PICK family of games.
As a result, players should plan to purchase their tickets in advance for these drawings.
Also during the transition, players can only use cash to purchase scratch-off tickets at the counter and at vending machines.
The eInstant games will continued to operate online, lottery officials said.
Players are reminded that vouchers will be unavailable during the transition and winning lottery tickets will not be cashed until the new system is in place. In addition, results of drawings held during the transition will not be available until the upgrade is complete.
