Center for Culinary Excellence unveiled
Pennsylvania Highlands Community College recently unveiled its Center for Culinary Excellence at its new downtown Johnstown location.
The initial class includes students from the Greater Johnstown School District participating in an early college program through dual enrollment. The center will be open to the public for those seeking an associate degree or certificate in culinary arts beginning with the Fall 2024 semester, which starts in August.
A grant from the 1889 Foundation helped purchase some of the equipment needed for the center, while the Community Foundation for the Alleghenies donated $30,000 to provide scholarships for second-year students in the culinary arts program.
Students who complete the full two-year program will receive an Associate of Applied Science in Culinary Arts. The curriculum will consist of multiple culinary, business and general education courses, along with an internship during the final semester.

King's Academy sets business fair
The second annual King's Academy Children's Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 13 and will feature 60 young entrepreneurs at the Tyrone Armory Community Center.
Children create a product or service, develop a brand, build a marketing strategy and then open for customers at this one-day marketplace. The children are responsible for the setup, sales and interaction with customers, and any parent seen selling to the customer or promoting the child's product will result in disqualification from the competition.
The event is sponsored by Acton Academy, the Acton Next Great Adventure and the support of donors and volunteers.
The event is free and open to the public.
