Hollidaysburg Area School District acting superintendent Darren McLaurin will resign from the position Friday, less than five months after assuming the role.
McLaurin's resignation was accepted during a Wednesday night Hollidaysburg Area School Board meeting. Current interim special education director Rodney Green will fill the vacant post until incoming superintendent Curtis Whitesel arrives in April. Green will serve starting Feb. 10 until April 1.
The search for a long-term replacement at the helm of HASD began after three-decade district leader Robert Gildea stepped down as superintendent in October to take an equivalent position in Lower Dauphin School District.
In addition to his role as acting superintendent, McLaurin is also an adjunct professor at Saint Francis University in Loretto, as well as a regional support specialist with the Pennsylvania Principals Association.
According to McLaurin, juggling three high-intensity roles for the past five months has been "a little overwhelming," leading to minor health issues. "So I thought it was best to step aside," McLaurin said.
McLaurin thanked the board during his final meeting as interim superintendent, noting what an "opportunity" it was to serve the HASD board.
"I apologize for departing a little bit early, but I know you're in great hands with Rodney taking over. ... It's a great district and I am happy to be a part of it," McLaurin said.
In other business, Foot of Ten Elementary School principal Jaime Hartline also submitted his resignation during the meeting. Hartline is a 19-year district veteran who was promoted to Foot of Ten principal in 2020 from his previous role as a Frankstown Elementary School teacher following the transfer of former head Brian Keagy to Charles W. Longer Elementary.
Hartline will remain with the district until March 31, when he will depart to become superintendent for the Penn Cambria School District in early April, as previously reported by the Mirror.
