Van Zandt wins award
The Van Zandt VA Medical Center has won a 2023 Federal Energy and Water Management Award from the Department of Energy's Federal Energy Management Program.
Engineers at Van Zandt coordinated the installation of a photovoltaic or solar panel system on the top of the main facility building at 2907 Pleasant Valley Blvd. The 171 panels were active in April 2023, making up one of the largest arrays in the county. It represents an annual energy cost savings of about $6,000 and reduces about 58 metric tons of greenhouse gases per year.
The project also showcased partnership with Groundhog Solar of Altoona, which was contracted to install the $120,000 system. It's the first such system on a federal property in Blair County.
Ron Skvir, a program specialist in the Green Environmental Management System office of Van Zandt, submitted the project for the award. The Small Group Project award category recognizes outstanding contributions related to energy or water cost savings at a federal facility.
The award will be presented at a ceremony in Pittsburgh on March 27.
Hamburglar on the move
McDonald's Hamburglar is stepping up his burger-stealing game -- this time, with a new trick up his black-and-white striped sleeve: The Burgercuda, Hamburglar's custom 1970 Plymouth Barracuda.
Hamburglar will be making his way coast-to-coast in an attempt at the ultimate burger-stealing heist. Fans can spot the car and scan the vehicle's code to get rewarded with an Arch Card -- plus Hamburglar-inspired swag. In addition, customers can visit SpotHamburglar.com for a chance to win hamburgers for a year.
The Burgercuda features black-and-white stripes across the car's interior and exterior, along with Hamburglar's logo on the headrests and red detailing throughout. The car also features bun-like hubcaps, a spare tire disguised as a giant cheeseburger and a hidden burger warmer in the center console. RBL RBL, Hamburglar's signature catchphrase, can be found on the hood scoop and license plate.
