SAMA reschedules Bedford Soiree
The Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art has rescheduled its Bedford Soiree for a date to be determined in the fall.
The event was scheduled for April 6, but the resignation of Bedford Site Director Christi Draves, who took the position of general manager for Lakemont Park, precipitated the rescheduling, said Erica Kilbride, director of Marketing and Engagement, who added, "We're very excited for her."
The switch to a fall soiree will "coincide with and support Bedford's fall festivals," Kilbride said, who had no further information on the hiring of a replacement for Draves.
Canoe Creek conducts structure burn
Canoe Creek State Park, in conjunction with Geeseytown Volunteer Fire Department and the State Fire Commission, will be conducting a one-day burn of a structure within the park. This structure burn, at 1293 Route 22, Hollidaysburg, on the eastern side of the park, is planned for 8 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 18.
The burn will provide training for local volunteer fire departments and demolish the structure.
The structure burn will be conducted in accordance with the State Fire Commission training guidelines and State Fire Commission trainers will be on site.
The Bass Court Boat Launch area will be used as a fill site while the burn is active, and public access boat launch will be intermittent until the burn is complete.
On the day of the burn, local residents may see fire trucks, fire police, park staff, fire, smoke and other activities in the area of the structure burn.
Lasagna dinner planned
Homers Gap Civic Association, 135 Preston Lane, Altoona, will hold a lasagna dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21, for eat in or take out.
The cost is $10, which includes lasagna, meatball, kaiser roll, applesauce or pudding and a cookie.

Beekeepers to meet Sunday
The Cambria-Clearfield-Blair County Beekeepers will present a seminar for beginning beekeepers at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 18, at Summit Lodge 312 Masonic Hall, 755 Rubisch Road, Ebensburg. There is no charge, and participants don't have to be beekeepers.
