Homestead tax break available

HOLLIDAYSBURG — Blair County property owners who aren’t receiving a homestead or farmstead reduction on their school district real estate taxes have until March 1 to apply for the reduction to be recognized on their 2024-25 school district tax bill.

While property owners currently enrolled in the program do not need to reapply, those who are unsure if they are enrolled can contact the county assessment office at 814-693-3110, Commissioner Laura Burke said Tuesday.

Property owners who aren’t enrolled will find an application on the county’s website at www.blairco.org. The application is accompanied by instructions and details about eligibility for the homestead and farmstead property tax exemptions. While it can be filed anytime, those seeking to have the tax reduction applied to their 2024-25 school district must apply by March 1.

The amount of the homestead/farmstead reduction varies by school district in which the property is located. For the 2023-24 school year, the reductions ranged from $107 to $308 in Blair County, according to online information posted by the state Department of Education.

Starting at $2.99/week.
