A weather system with a cold front will come through the Blair County area on Sunday, bringing rain on and off throughout the day, according to Accuweather meteorologist Renee Duff.
While the steadiest rain totaling 1.5 to 2 inches will most likely be concentrated in eastern Pennsylvania, Altoona could see about one-half to three-quarters of an inch, Duff said.
"There is a big change coming behind this system," Duff said. "It will drag in a lot of cold air behind it. If the cold air comes in fast enough, that rain could turn into snow."
Duff said that, at most, there would be a light coating of snow on the ground that would probably have a hard time sticking.
"It will also be pretty windy Sunday night into Monday morning with gusts of 35 to 40 mph," Duff said. "That will help, as temperatures drop, to blow dry roads and other surfaces so that they don't freeze."
She said that there could be a few wet patches that "can turn a little icy Monday morning" and that "it'll be something to keep in mind."
"After that, next week looks pretty dry," Duff said. "The rest of the week will be pretty quiet."
