Military Families Ministry USA Inc. has launched its 13th annual Stockings for the Troops project to send stockings to deployed service members.
Donation bins are going out to drop locations in Altoona, Bellwood and Tyrone and items will be collected throughout the month of November.
"There are many military families who will have an empty seat this year at their Christmas dinner table as their loved one is on deployment -- serving and sacrificing for all of us," said Tracie Ciambotti, MFM USA president and director.
"For the deployed service members -- these stockings are much more than snacks and treats -- they are a reminder that our nation appreciates their service and sacrifice," she said.
Items being collected include: hard candy, ChapStick, toothbrushes and small tubes of toothpaste, hot chocolate and oatmeal packets, snack and food bars, crackers, individually wrapped cookies, Slim Jims and beef jerky, individual drink mixes for water bottles, decks of cards or small card games.
Donations can be dropped off in Altoona at DeGol Organization, 3229 Pleasant Valley Blvd., ARC Federal Credit Union, 1919 Seventh Ave. or 419 N. Seventh St.; in Bellwood at the Bellwood-Antis Public Library, 526 Main St., Mayhue's Garage, 601 Main St. or The Hope Center, 421 Main St; and in Tyrone at Mac's Meat Market, 1658 Columbia Ave., and Kelly Wike State Farm Office, 1203 Pennsylvania Ave.
