Martinsburg Elementary boiler expected done by next week
ROARING SPRING — A flue liner for Martinsburg Elementary School’s new boiler arrived late Monday, and the system should be fully operational by next week, Spring Cove Superintendent Betsy Baker said during the district’s school board meeting Monday.
“We expect the boiler will be fully operational by the middle of next week,” Baker said. “In the meantime, the space heaters are working well. Teachers and students are reporting that their classrooms are very comfortable.”
A delay in the manufacturing of the flue liner meant that the school’s boiler couldn’t be turned on even as temperatures began to drop. While the district waited for the liner, Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds Aaron Barnes purchased 31 large-room space heaters for the building’s classrooms, Baker had said during last week’s board meeting.
In other matters, the board approved the elimination of one full-time police officer position, the creation of another part-time police officer position and the hiring of Gregory Sutton for that part-time police officer position at a rate of $25 an hour. Baker said this was because Sutton’s availability had changed and he could only work part-time.
