Four Altoona residents are behind bars after allegedly squatting on a property that was known to officers to be an abandoned private residence.
Andre Brown, 51, Chandra Taylor, 42, George Conrad, 40, and James McNally, 60, all of Altoona, were all charged with one felony count each of criminal trespass - enter structure and conspiracy trespass - enter structure as well as one misdemeanor count of use/possession of drug paraphernalia.
They were all arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Daniel C. DeAntonio on Oct. 26. Unable to post their individual $30,000 bail, they were all remanded to the Blair County Prison.
They will all appear before Magisterial District Judge Daniel C. DeAntonio on Nov. 8 for their individual preliminary hearings.
The charges against them stem from a report of several individuals squatting at 119 Fourth Ave. where officers responded to about 12:47 p.m. on Oct. 26. Upon their arrival, officers reported seeing a "no trespassing" sign placed on the front door of the residence.
After knocking, an individual later identified as McNally answered the door and told officers that there were others inside, police records show. Officers then requested to enter the residence to check on their well-being.
According to police reports, McNally invited the officers into the residence, where they found Conrad, Brown and Taylor.
While within the residence, officers reported locating numerous items of drug paraphernalia including one capped syringe, four glass smoking pipes, one straw, one metal scrape tool and three pieces of foil with residue. Officers seized and photographed these items, which were found in a "common living area of the residence," police records show.
