Fair funding formula discussed by Williamsburg School Board

WILLIAMSBURG -- Working together, sharing resources between school districts and revamping the fair funding formula were discussed at a superintendent's conference in Hershey in late September, Williamsburg Community School District Superintendent Lisa Murgas said.

She detailed the conference to the school board during its meeting Tuesday evening, saying that she had the chance to meet and talk with the Secretary of Education Khalid Mumin.

"He's a very energetic man with a lot of great ideas for the Department of Education," Murgas said. "He has a great vision for where he sees education in Pennsylvania and the fair funding and all of those things that go along with that lawsuit in fair funding."

Murgas said that superintendents from IU8, 10 and 11 attended the conference and that Mumin knew Williamsburg was a small district that would benefit from fair funding.

"(Mumin) did not really speak of consolidation, but more so districts working together and sharing resources versus saying 'okay, we're going to be a county school district '" Murgas said.

Murgas said that Mumin indicated that "some sort of an outline or some sort of idea" of fair funding would be available by January.
