Giant Company recognized for reducing emissions

The Giant Co., as part of its healing the planet commitment, has been recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's GreenChill Program for reaching superior goal achievement in its refrigerant emissions reduction goal in 2022. This is the second year in a row The Giant Co. has been acknowledged.

Since joining EPA's GreenChill Program in 2021, The Giant Co. has implemented best practices from across the industry, including preventative maintenance programs and adding new refrigerant leak detection equipment. The Giant Co. also continues to exchange older gas cooking equipment for electric equipment, and replace refrigerants, cases and refrigeration systems with cleaner, more efficient products across its more than 190 stores.

SFU sets business planning seminar

The Saint Francis University Small Business Development Center and Somerset Trust Co. will host a pre-business planning webinar at 5 p.m. Oct. 25 for people interested in opening and operating their own business.

Topics include feasibility issues, marketing, recordkeeping, business plans, legal issues, regulations/taxes and financing.

Operation Our Town sets landlord workshop

Operation Our Town, in partnership with the Altoona Housing Authority and Central Pennsylvania Landlord Association, will hold its annual Landlord Educational Workshop from 8:45 p.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 3 at the Altoona Grand Hotel. The workshop is free to attend and lunch will be included.

Topics covered during the workshop include: Magisterial District Judge Frequently Asked Questions, Housing Assistance Programs, Common Fair Housing Violations, City Codes & Operation Safe Space, Signs of Illegal Drug Activity and Eviction Process & Tax Sale.

Vendor tables will be set up in the back of the room for attendees to visit during lunch for more information & resources.
