False ID leads to more charges
Moore, 25, wanted on multiple warrants in S.C. before arrest in Freedom Township
A South Carolina man arrested on drug and gun charges after a weekend traffic stop, faces additional charges after police found out his real identity.
Deontae Shakur Moore, 25, of Columbia, South Carolina, told police his name was Dandre Tyreese Sumter after he was taken into custody, along with two others, early Sunday morning.
Charges were filed under the Sumter name, but police noted in the affidavit of probable cause that they could not positively identify him. Later Sunday, police followed up on Sumter’s identification and found that Central Booking ran his fingerprints, which came back as a positive match for Moore.
Moore, police learned, is wanted on multiple warrants from the Winnsboro Police Department in South Carolina on “extremely violent charges,” including four counts of attempted murder, malicious injury to property or animals, possession of weapons and discharging a firearm. Richland County, South Carolina, also has additional warrants for Moore on attempted murder among additional charges, Freedom Township police reported.
A Freedom Township officer reached out to multiple officers from South Carolina, specifically an officer with the Richland County Sheriff’s Department. The two briefed each other on their cases and the local officer was told about a search warrant executed on Moore’s residence in Columbia, South Carolina.
That search turned up a Glock handgun case with the label removed. Officers also collected multiple 45ACP shell casings at the scenes of where multiple shootings occurred.
Freedom Township police said that information is consistent with the Glock 30 Gen 4 handgun that was located inside the rear of the U-Haul truck he was riding in during the Blair County traffic stop.
Moore was convicted of aggravated assault in 2017 and is a person not to possess a firearm, police stated.
On Wednesday, Moore was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Andrew L. Blattenberger on charges related to the traffic stop, and additional charges for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The charges were filed under his correct name and include two felony counts of firearms not to be carried without a license, two felony counts of possession of a firearm prohibited and a felony possession with intent to deliver charge, along with misdemeanor charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana and obstruction of justice.
Moore’s bail was denied — a change from the $50,000 previously set — due to hsi having four arrest warrants out of South Carolina for attempted murder, plus other warrants, court documents state.
