HOLLIDAYSBURG -- The completion date for a broadband internet expansion project in Blair County has been pushed back to Jan. 30.
Commissioners Laura Burke and Amy Webster voted Tuesday in favor of granting four more months to Crowsnest Broadband LLC of Woodbury to continue working on the expansion effort that project managers, Alleghenies Broadband Inc., targeted for completion at the end of September.
As reviewed in July, the project called for Crowsnest to work with third-party contractors to secure permits and install equipment on nine cell towers in the Rose Hill, Kettle Road, Eldorado and the Horseshoe Curve areas of Altoona and in the Loop Mountain, Cove Lane, Williamsburg, Fredericksburg and Curryville area of southern Blair County.
When finished, the project is expected to improve or introduce internet access to an estimated 1,700 users.
