Work began Monday on the Route 36 bridge over Norfolk Southern and Everett Railroad lines and Loop Road, PennDOT announced.
The project in Hollidaysburg Borough includes repairs to the structure and will require short-term lane closures, with traffic controlled by daylight flaggers.
The work by Charles J. Merlo Inc. of Mineral Point includes removal of the existing concrete median and placing asphalt for the transition of traffic patterns. Work will begin on the southbound lanes of the bridge. Next week, a long-term traffic control pattern will start, and both north and southbound traffic will be restricted to one lane. Minor delays are expected.
The $2.6 million project is weather dependent and is expected to be completed by mid-November.
