Gildea likely moving on to Lower Dauphin
Hollidaysburg superintendent has been with the district for 23 years

The Lower Dauphin School Board is poised to hire Robert J. Gildea as the district's superintendent during a special meeting Monday night.
Gildea has been the superintendent of the Hollidaysburg Area School District since July 1, 2013, after being hired to replace 14-year Superintendent Paul Gallagher.
Gildea, a lifelong resident of Hollidaysburg, worked at the district for 23 years as a teacher, coach, principal and athletic director. He added a doctorate degree and superintendent certification to his credentials in May 2011.
When hired to lead Hollidaysburg Area, he received a starting salary of $115,000 for the 2013-14 school year. The latest figures available on govsalaries.com show Gildea's salary at $140,334 in 2020.
According to Lower Dauphin's meeting agenda, the board will be voting to hire Gildea at a salary of $190,000, with an effective date on or before Nov. 27. The five-year contract would run through June 30, 2028.
When reached by phone Friday night, Gildea said nothing is official and he would not have a comment until after the vote.
The Lower Dauphin School District's superintendent resigned effective June 2 and the district has been under the leadership of an interim superintendent, according to board meeting minutes.
Hollidaysburg Area School Board President Ron Sommer said Friday night that Gildea has "done a great job at Hollidaysburg" and if he decides to move on, "he will be very missed."
"They've picked up a very good superintendent down there," Sommer said. "Now we're going to need to search for our new one."
