Addleman held after large stash of drugs allegedly found in vehicle

CLEARFIELD -- A Clearfield County man accused of possessing several blocks of fentanyl and breaking into police impound lots to obtain other drugs waived his right to preliminary hearings Wednesday during centralized court.

Clint Al Addleman, 46, of Morrisdale, is being held without bail in the Clearfield County Jail in three of his four cases. The charges now move on to common pleas court.

According to the affidavit in the fentanyl case, police spotted Addleman, Bradley Maines, 46, of Woodland, and a female walking across a convenience store parking lot in Lawrence Township on May 24.

After discovering Maines had an active warrant, the officer followed their vehicle and initiated a traffic stop on the I-80 eastbound on-ramp.

Addleman, the driver, and Maines, a passenger, were informed about Addleman's warrants. During this time, the officer noticed a bag sitting suspiciously on the center armrest, where he thought it was not secure. Later it was found to contain "numerous large blocks, yellow, blue and pink in color, suspected to be a large amount of fentanyl."

The female identified as Kaitlyn Evans, 31, of Morrisdale, also had warrants.

In the backseat where she had been sitting, officers located a backpack that had a plastic container with white residue and $124 in cash. In a makeup bag, they found drug paraphernalia, pills suspected to be Xanax, three containers and a glass vial with suspected fentanyl and $990 in cash, according to the report.

Addleman's phone reportedly contained messages related to suspected drug activity. A photo on the phone showed a large amount of cash, which appeared to be over $50,000, that Addleman claimed was from the sale of his house.

Each of them is charged with two felony counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Maines and Evans also waived their rights to hearings Wednesday. They are being held in the county jail in lieu of $250,000 bail for each of them.

Addleman is facing additional counts, including two cases in which he is charged with breaking into police impound lots.

In January, Addleman allegedly broke into the state police impound lot in Woodland and got into the trunk of a vehicle being held for a pending search warrant.

According to that affidavit, a corporal was taking out the trash when he noticed the trunk of a vehicle in the impound lot was ajar with physical damage. A chain link fence in the back of the lot had been cut.

Later, someone reportedly tipped off police that it was Addleman who had gotten into the lot, broken into the vehicle and allegedly removed 2 pounds of methamphetamine, 5 or 6 ounces of cocaine and 10 grams of fentanyl. Police say additional witnesses confirmed this story.

For this, he is charged with felony counts of criminal trespass and criminal mischief, as well as misdemeanor tampering with evidence and institutional vandalism.

The second break-in occurred at an impound lot in Clearfield Borough on Feb. 12.

The criminal complaint in this case details how police took control of the truck containing illegal drugs after the driver, Chad Schwartz, 51, Clearfield, fled from a traffic stop.

Two men were seen around the lot where the vehicle was being held around 1 a.m. Later that morning it was discovered that several items that were in the vehicle were now lying on the ground outside of it.

This included a black Reebok bag that had previously contained the controlled substances.

Prior to the burglary, the drugs were removed during the execution of a search warrant.

When police spoke with Schwartz, he allegedly admitted he was in the lot trying to take items from the truck while Addleman served as a lookout, according to the report.

As a result, Addleman was charged with five various counts of conspiracy.

Schwartz is also facing burglary and theft charges in relation to this incident and drug charges for the original traffic stop. He is currently free on $25,000 bail in each case.

Addleman is also accused of selling a confidential informant 4.8 grams of methamphetamine in March 2020.

For this, he is charged with felony counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and criminal use of a communication facility.
