Altoona restaurant closing
Cook's Kitchen at the Phoenix, 300 Fourth Ave., is closing its day-to-day operations.
The restaurant, owned by Lajo's Italian Sausage, Christopher Cook president, had opened Nov. 25.
Plans call for converting the space into a private event venue, according to the Cook's Kitchen Facebook page.
"We will still be offering catering out of the restaurant for both this space as well as our other three banquet centers," the post reads.
Previously purchased gift cards will be accepted at Lajo's Italian Market, 1101 Eighth Ave.
Bank to create new branch
Reliance Bank will begin construction at its future downtown Altoona branch the first week of August. The bank is relocating its 12th Street branch to 1300 11th Ave. later this year.
The new location will feature an updated interior design similar to Reliance Bank's recently rebuilt branch at 226 W. Plank Road. The bank plans to keep portions of the existing brick interior to maintain the aesthetics for which downtown Altoona is known. The new location will also have expanded hours.
PWCampbell, a design-build firm out of Pittsburgh, is responsible for the branch's design, architecture and engineering. Leonard S. Fiore Inc. is serving as the project's general contractor.
Reliance Bank is developing a plan for the future of 1119 12th St. The bank's goal is to ensure the building continues to serve a purpose in the revitalization of downtown Altoona.

Jewels Boutique to open
Jewels Boutique will open Aug. 4 inside of Biddle's Brewing, 215 High St.
Owned by Julie Gorsuch, Jewels Boutique started as a western clothing store for women but has recently rebranded with the move to also offer home goods and gift items.
All clothing is available for online purchase; however, home and gift items are in-store only.
Business hours will be the same as Biddle's Brewing with evening hours in the future.
