A New York woman faces charges after she allegedly stole a vehicle after shoving the driver out of the SUV at an intersection in Snyder Township.
Mary Ann Philbrick, 29, of Panama, N.Y., was arraigned Tuesday before Magisterial District Judge Fred B. Miller on felony charges of robbery of a motor vehicle, theft and receiving stolen property, along with a summary harassment charge. Unable to post $50,000 bail, she was remanded to the Blair County Prison. Her preliminary hearing is June 20 before Miller.
Shortly after midnight on June 2, state police responded to Snappy's Convenience Store, 7060 Tyrone Pike, to speak with the female victim who had just been carjacked near that location.
The victim, who works at St. Joseph Institute, a local drug rehabilitation center in Port Matilda, said she was on her way home from work when she spotted Philbrick walking along Bald Eagle Pike. Philbrick had left the facility just before the victim's shift ended, so the victim stopped to give her a ride, court documents state.
As she was giving her a ride, Philbrick became physical and shoved the victim out of the vehicle at the intersection of Bald Eagle Pike and South Eagle Valley Road. Philbrick then got out of the vehicle and shoved the victim down to the ground, the woman told police. Philbrick also tried to take the victim's phone but was unable to get the device.
Philbrick then got back into the vehicle and drove away.
At 4:45 a.m., state police in DuBois responded to a disabled eastbound vehicle along I-80. Police discovered the Kia Soul was stolen and Philbrick, who had walked away, was found nearby. She was taken into custody and gave police a false identity before providing her real name and admitting she stole the vehicle, the report states.
