HOLLIDAYSBURG -- An Intergovernmental Stormwater Committee agreement renewal and police department hiring were topics for Hollidaysburg Borough Council Thursday.
Borough Manager Jim Gehret provided council members with a draft of the current ISC agreement, asking them to review it before it is approved. The ISC is a group of 10 local entities that "have steadily worked toward a formalized approach to jointly manage, implement, fund and comply with the federal regulations" related to the Environmental Protection Agency's Municipal Separate Stormwater Sewer System program.
Gehret said that the borough's current representative is Richard Pope, borough Water Department director and
community facilities director.
"So this would actually get approved at an ISC meeting," Gehret said. "The percentages that you pay into this group is based on a formula that comes up with impervious ground, stream banks in your area and different things like that."
Gehret said that the borough had been paying close an 8% share, but that number had gone down about 1.668%. He estimated that the borough's share would be closer to an estimated $41,000.
"Don't get hung up on that because once they start finding more projects, that number will probably slide back up," Gehret said.
During the meeting's public comment section, Gaysport residents Elda Boose and Gerard Nale expressed their support for the renewal of the ICS agreement. Councilman Brady Leahey agreed, saying that being a part of the committee was a plus.
Sgt. Richard Oldham reported that the Hollidaysburg Police Department had 335 calls for service in May, an increase over last year's 299 calls.
In a letter, the Hollidaysburg Civil Service Commission informed the council that the current police eligibility list had been exhausted and that it will come up with a new list of candidates for the ninth officer position.
In addition, the council authorized Stiffler McGraw to perform an investigation into an apartment building at 328-330 Mulberry St. to determine if it needs a dangerous structure hearing after a complaint was filed with the borough.
The Phoenix Volunteer Fire Department was reimbursed $24,666.40 by the borough for loan and insurance payments.
