The Blair Regional YMCA will host free swimming lessons starting Monday at Prospect Pool, Altoona.
Sessions will run from June 26-29, July 10-13, July 17-20, July 24-27, July 31-Aug. 3 and Aug. 7-10.
Lessons will be offered from 10 to 11 a.m. to children in kindergarten through third grade and from 11 a.m. to noon for children in fourth through sixth grade.
The lessons are limited to Altoona residents. Those with free or discounted Prospect Pool passes will receive priority registration.
Topics include water safety and swim lesson guidelines, pool etiquette, safety around the pool, how to be a safe swimmer, floating/treading water, blowing bubbles from the nose and mouth, kicking/arm movement, elementary backstroke and ring retrieval (3- to 5-foot depth).
