Spring Cove, Tyrone received grants
The Spring Cove and Tyrone Area school districts each received $75,000 grants from the Pennsylvania Department of Education to enable more high school students to enroll in dual credit programs.
More than $6.7 million in grant funding was awarded to 100 school entities, according to a news release from the governor’s office. Spring Cove and Tyrone were the only two grant recipients in Blair County.
Regional districts that received grants included Southern Huntingdon County, $75,000; Huntingdon Area, $36,900; Penn Cambria, $75,000; Greater Johnstown, $63,600; Curwensville, $75,000; Philipsburg-Osceola, $14,065.45; and DuBois, $75,000.
“Dual credit programs help high school students get a jump start on their post-secondary coursework,” said Acting Secretary of Education Khalid N. Mumin. “By expanding dual credit opportunities across the commonwealth, we will help more students access these programs, become exposed to new opportunities, and begin to chart their own course to successful and fulfilling careers.”
