CLEARFIELD -- A Curwensville man accused of robbing a store in Madera at gunpoint waived his right to a preliminary hearing Wednesday.
Police say Greg Albert Selner, 54, was in the store on Jan. 27, 2022, where he picked up a soda before getting the attention of an employee who was stocking shelves. After they got to the cash register, he "struggled to pull a black in color handgun from his waistband with his hand."
He then displayed the gun and demanded money. He stated, "I'm sorry to rob you, but I'm doing it for my family and kids," according to the affidavit of probable cause.
He got away with $102.88 in cash and the soda, fleeing in a silver vehicle. Later police found the sweatshirt worn by the defendant during the crime along Main Street in Bigler Township after it was discarded from a silver vehicle, according to surveillance video.
Officials were able to recover DNA from the clothing that matched Selner, who drives a silver Kia Rio and is a similar body type of the suspect.
In July 2022, police executed a search warrant on Selner's home, where they found a black BB gun.
In an interview with authorities, Selner denied robbing the store. He claimed he sold the sweatshirt at a yard sale.
Selner is charged with two felony counts of robbery, misdemeanor terroristic threats, recklessly endangering another person, theft, simple assault, disorderly conduct and more.
At the time of his hearing, his bail was lowered from $500,000 to $250,000. He remains in the Clearfield County Jail.
Selner is also charged with criminal trespass and theft for allegedly stealing a medical bag from the Mahaffey Fire Department in December 2022. His bail in that case is $25,000, unsecured.
