Duncansville to hold ceremonies
The Duncansville Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post 8724 will hold Memorial Day ceremonies on Monday, May 29, at the front entrance of the Carson Valley Church, just off Route 764 in Duncansville. The ceremony will begin at 8:45 a.m. The Blair County Veterans Honor Guard will post the colors. Caroline Black will be the guest speaker. The Hollidaysburg Senior and Junior High bands will provide music.
After the ceremony, the group will gather at the grave of the last veteran buried in the church cemetery for a ceremony featuring a rifle salute and taps.
The VFW and the Blair County Veterans Honor Guard will also hold services at the following locations: 9:45 a.m. at the Dry Run Independent Baptist Church, 633 Valley Forge Road, Duncansville; 10 a.m., Newry Lutheran and St. Patrick’s, Shamrock Lane and Blarney Street, Newry; 10:15 a.m., St. Patrick’s Church, 704 Patrick Lane, Duncansville; 10:30 a.m., Vicksburg Grace Brethren Church, Brookes Mills, Hollidaysburg; and 11 a.m., the Franciscan Monastery, Kladder Station, Hollidaysburg. All times are approximate and may vary depending on traffic.
Catholic War Vets parade scheduled
The Catholic War Vets Memorial Day Parade will begin at 8:30 a.m. Monday, May 29, at 13th Street and Crawford Avenue before turning right onto First Avenue, to 12th Street, to 14th Street before entering St. Mary’s Church for Mass. After Mass, the parade will move onto Fifth Avenue, to 15h Street, to Second Avenue, to 12th Street before proceeding to St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Hollidaysburg parade set
Hollidaysburg’s upcoming Memorial Day parade will be held at 10 m., Monday, May 29.
Blair County War Vets parade, service planned
The Altoona Memorial Day parade by the Blair County War Veterans Council will form at 10 a.m. and step off at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 29, at Eighth Avenue and 17th Street, traveling on 17th Street to 12th Street, to 11th Avenue, to 15th Street where a service will follow at Robert E. Laws Veterans Mall.
Carrolltown Legion to host services
Memorial Day services conducted by the American Legion Post 506, Carrolltown, will be held at the Carrolltown American Legion Park at 10 a.m., Monday, May 29, followed by services at the Bakerton/Elmora Veterans Memorial at 10:30 a.m. and St. Benedict Veterans Memorial at 11 a.m.
Patton plans Memorial Day parade
The Patton Memorial Day parade will be held at 9 a.m. Monday, May 29. The parade will be led by local veterans and include the Cambria Heights High School band, Patton Volunteer Fire Company and various youth groups. The veterans will visit eight cemeteries along with the Memorial at the Patton Park, with rifle salutes and Taps played to honor those who have served their country in war and peace.
The final ceremonies will be held in front of the VFW Post 779 and the American Legion Post 614.
