Logan Township supervisors Thursday imposed a ban on outdoor burning in the township, effective today.
"The warmer weather, along with lack of tree foliage, make conditions for brush fires ideal," stated township Manager Tim Brown in a news release following the meeting.
The ban will remain in effect until conditions -- as determined by the supervisors -- warrant lifting it, Brown wrote.
"There are a lot of dry leaves," said Supervisor Ed Frontino.
"Till we get some rain, and everything is greened up," said Chairman Jim Patterson. "The whole area is a tinderbox."
The decision to impose the ban was unanimous.
The township is encouraging the reporting of violators by calling 814-949-3364 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. or 814-940-5952 after hours.
