50 years ago: April 5, 1973

The Towne House Motel on 11th Street downtown, owned by a company called Altoona Motor Inn Corp., Sidney Holzman president, announced an expansion now that businesses surrounding it had been razed: Walker's Pawn Shop, Texas Weiners, Sanker's and Danny's Newsstand.

25 years ago: April 5, 1998

Altoona City Councilman Thomas Shaheen said that the city wanted to purchase 11 homes in the Kentucky Avenue section due to Mill Run flooding. They currently had $200,000 to purchase two homes and were seeking federal and local grants of $300,000 to purchase three more.

10 years ago: April 5, 2013

Stacy Aldrich, deputy secretary for the Office of Commonwealth Libraries in Pennsylvania was in Altoona to talk at a meeting of about 35 local library directors about the latest technology at Altoona Area Public Library.
