Hearing waived in child rape case
Baseball coach Harzinski accused of assaulting boys
A Curwensville Area High School baseball coach who is charged with sexually assaulting two boys waived his right to a preliminary hearing Wednesday, March 29, in Clearfield County Central Court.
All 18 charges against Thomas Patrick Harzinski, 48, of Olanta, have been bound over for court.
Harzinski faces felony charges of rape of a child, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse of a person less than 16 years old, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child, sexual assault, sexual assault by a sports official and indecent assault of a person less than 13 years of age.
In addition, he faces misdemeanor charges of indecent assault of a person less than 13 years of age and indecent assault of a person less than 16 years old.
The charges were filed last week after state police in Clearfield investigated a report of sexual assault that occurred last year in a hotel in Pittsburgh, a campground in Williamsport and at Harzinski’s home on the 7400 block of Curwensville Tyrone Highway.
While bail was initially denied when Harzinski was first arrested, court documents show that bail was modified to $1 million due to “high risk to children in the community.”
Harzinski remains in the Clearfield County Prison, according to online court records.
His formal arraignment is set for 1:30 p.m. April 26 at the Annex Courtroom.
