Clay Gingrich, Warren A. Gingrich Insurance Agency president, has announced his candidacy for Hollidaysburg Borough Council Ward 3, which includes the Gaysport neighborhood.
Gingrich, who grew up in Altoona but has lived in Gaysport since 2016, hopes to improve the effectiveness, transparency and accountability of local government.
"Gaysport residents have been struggling for years with ever-worsening flood problems brought on by neglected stormwater management," he said. "Borough Council has a responsibility to deal with this and other issues threatening the quality of life in the Borough."
Gingrich believes safe, small-business-friendly communities like Hollidaysburg are difficult to find in today's world. Borough government has an obligation to protect these attributes and foster loyalty to the community. That means conducting government business in a positive, fully transparent way that is receptive to the needs of local homeowners. "Residents who love and enjoy their community are more inclined to take care of it -- and each other," Gingrich said. "And governments that respect the citizens they represent are far more likely to retain their support."
Gingrich said he has fond childhood memories of Hollidaysburg when visiting his grandparents, Warren and Joyce Gingrich, and counts himself lucky to call Hollidaysburg home.
