Reading men jailed on drug counts
Two Reading men are behind bars after five bricks of cocaine were found in their rental vehicle during a traffic stop in Bedford County, according to court documents.
Uriel Villasenor, 37, and Exsain Villasenor-Espino, 30, were arraigned Tuesday afternoon before Magisterial District Judge Kathy S. Calhoun on felony charges of possession with intent to deliver, along with misdemeanor charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Villasenor was also charged with a summary speeding violation.
Bail was set at $500,000 each, and they were remanded to the Bedford County Correctional Facility. Their preliminary hearings are set for March 22 in Bedford County Central Court.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, state police observed a black Nissan Altima traveling 76 mph on the Pennsylvania Turnpike in East Providence Township, Bedford County, about 8:20 a.m. Tuesday. The vehicle was in the left lane passing other vehicles, and after observing the speed violation, a trooper conducted a traffic stop.
The report states the officer could smell marijuana as he approached the vehicle. The driver, Villasenor, told police he and his cousin were traveling from Pittsburgh on their way back to Reading. He said he smokes marijuana recreationally and that he had just smoked in Pittsburgh. When asked if there was anything illegal in the car, he told police he didn’t know, and if there was, it wasn’t his.
When police talked to the passenger, Villasenor-Espino, he said the two were traveling from Chicago and didn’t stop anywhere else.
Due to the conflicting statements and the odor of marijuana, police sought and received written permission from the two to search the vehicle.
During the search, police found a black duffle bag in the truck. Inside the bag were five wrapped packages that Villasenor-Espino said were cocaine. Police said the estimated weight of the drug was 5 kilograms.
While at the state police station in Bedford, a test was conducted and was positive for cocaine, the report states.
