Republican Amy Melius of Hopewell is running for Bedford County commissioner. Melius and her husband own Cove Printing and Design in Woodbury.
She said she is familiar with and realizes the value of both small and large businesses throughout the county.
A former manager of the Bedford Township Municipal Authority, Melius is a member of the Tussey Mountain School Board, serves on the Center for Community Action board, is a volunteer coordinator for the Hopewell/Saxton Food Pantry and is a member of the Bedford County Republican Committee
She has served on the school board's policy and curriculum and general services committees and currently serves on the budget, finance and personnel committee.
She also serves on the development and finance committee at the Center for Community Action and said serving on the various boards, as well as previous professional and life experiences, have reinforced the importance of operating within a budget and being fiscally responsible.
"I believe the position of county commissioner is a full-time obligation. and if elected, I will use Christian values, commonsense and integrity to balance the interests of the county, its residents and its businesses when making decisions."
Melius wants to ensure that the county is operated in a transparent and efficient manner while being fiscally responsible.
She also seeks to work with local municipalities and agencies, promote tourism and business development, protect natural resources and work with local, state and federal agencies to obtain grants.
She also vows to protect Second Amendment rights.
"I look forward to the opportunity to promote our very unique county," she said.
