Altoona’s Givens signs contract extension with 49ers

Defensive tackle Kevin Givens is remaining with the San Francisco 49ers.

The team announced Monday night that Altoona Area High School and Penn State product has been re-signed to a one-year contract worth a reported $2.1 million.

Givens, 26, will enter his fifth NFL season.

Givens played 354 total snaps in 2022 as a rotational defensive tackle on one of the league’s best defensive lines, according to Pro Football Focus.

He appeared in 13 games (11 starts) and recorded 20 tackles, 2.0 sacks and one pass defensed. He also appeared in all three postseason games where he added four tackles.

Over his four seasons with San Francisco, Givens has played in 40 games (12 starts) and added 57 tackles, 3.0 sacks, two passes defensed, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. He also appeared in six postseason games and recorded 10 tackles, one pass defensed and 0.5 sack.

Givens graduated from Altoona Area High School in 2015.

At Penn State (2015-18), Givens was a three-year starter who appeared in 39 games (22 starts) and finished with 82 tackles, 21.5 tackles for loss, 13.0 sacks, four passes defensed, three fumble recoveries and one forced fumble.

He was an undrafted free agent, signing with the Niners in 2019.

On Monday, San Francisco also fortified its defensive line with the signing of free agent Javon Hargrave, formerly of the Philadelphia Eagles.
