A Johnstown woman accused of stealing a handgun in Cambria County was taken into custody Monday in Blair County and charged with prostitution.
Cortnie Bree Figueroa, 25, was arrested after police received a tip she was staying at the Rodeway Inn and had an active warrant through Cambria County.
The male who called in the tip said Figueroa stole a Smith & Wesson .22-caliber handgun from him on Sunday, court documents state.
After verifying the warrant, Logan Township officers made contact with her at the motel about 9:19 p.m., where she told police her name was Carolyn Laboo, provided multiple dates of birth and gave police a state identification card for Laboo.
Police noticed a burnt glass pipe in the room and Figueroa said it was used to smoke crack, the report states. When asked if she had anything else illegal on her, she pulled another burnt glass pipe from a pocket.
Police received consent to search the room and found a small amount of marijuana, three sealed marijuana gummies, an empty blue bag containing white power residue and a capped needle. A pill container with the name "Cortnie" was also found, though the search consent was signed Carolyn Laboo, police said.
Police again contacted the tipster, who said he made contact with Figueroa through the website "Skip the Games Altoona, Pennsylvania" and made a fake account to find out her location in an effort to find his stolen gun. Figueroa's advertisement on the prostitution website states a variety of sexual services. It also provided several nude photographs of Figueroa, including face and body photos, the report states.
The male tipster told police he did not intend to have sex with Figueroa, and was only using the site to find her. In text messages between the two, Figueroa provided her room number and rates, court documents state.
Police took Figueroa into custody about 10:45 p.m. and when asked what her real name was, she confessed it was Cortnie, police reported. She also told police she had created the advertisement on "Skip the Games" to promote prostitution, noting she had been a prostitute in Johnstown but didn't make a lot of money.
During a search, police found a small blue bag containing suspected cocaine.
Figueroa was arraigned Tuesday morning before Magisterial District Judge Paula M. Aigner on misdemeanor charges of false identification, promoting prostitution, possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Unable to post 10% of $25,000 bail, she was remanded to the Blair County Prison. Her preliminary hearing is March 2 before Magisterial District Judge Matthew Dunio.
According to online court documents, Figueroa faces felony burglary and related charges in a 2022 case in Cambria County. In August, those charges were held for court.
