Man faces fraud charges

Treece

A Roaring Spring man faces fraud charges in Carlisle after he told police his Corvette was stolen while he was attending the Carlisle Car Show.

According to Carlisle police, Joel Douglas Treece, 52, reported his 1963 Corvette was taken April 23, 2022, while it was parked near the intersection of North Pitt Street and H Street in Carlisle.

Police initiated an investigation in cooperation with the state police Auto Theft Task Force and the National Insurance Crime Bureau.

The investigation found that Treece had obtained a fraudulent vehicle title for the Corvette and made a false insurance claim for the theft of the vehicle.

Police said the sports car was located in Ohio and found to be owned by another person who had possession of the car since the 1980s.

Treece was arraigned Jan. 9 on felony charges of forgery, filing a false insurance claim, washing vehicle titles and criminal use of a communications facility, as well as misdemeanor charges of making a false application for a title, tampering with public records and false reports.

He was released on unsecured bail and is to appear in Carlisle for a preliminary hearing Feb. 15.

Starting at $3.83/week.
