Counselor accused of sex with student

A Mount Union High School guidance counselor is facing charges after she allegedly had a sexual relationship with a student.

Morgan Lee Anderson, 31, of Cassville, was arraigned Thursday before Magisterial District Judge Rufus S. Brenneman on a felony charge of intercourse/sexual contact with a student.

According to court documents, Anderson is accused of having a sexual relationship last year with an 18-year-old student she was meeting with as a guidance counselor with Mount Union High School.

State police began investigating the case in December 2022, court records state.

During an interview with the teen on Jan. 4, the male told police that he and Anderson were flirting at school and he “jokingly” asked for her Snapchat and she gave it to him. The two had conversations via Snapchat on multiple occasions, the teen told police.

Police said Anderson and the teen met twice outside of school, once in the Peebles Plaza in Smithfield Township, where they kissed.

The second meeting was about 4 p.m. Dec. 6, 2022, at the Mapleton Riverside Park where they reportedly had sex in the teen’s car. The teen admitted that he consented to the relationship and voluntarily met Anderson there.

While at the park, the male said his mother unexpectedly arrived after the two were done. He left the park and went home on his mother’s advice, he told police, noting that he did not tell his mother at first that he and Anderson had sexual contact.

When questioned by police on Jan. 4, Anderson at first denied the allegations and said she was meeting the teen outside of school for counseling. She reportedly told police the teen attempted to kiss her.

According to court documents, Anderson admitted to the encounters and said she didn’t think she violated the law because the two met outside of school and the boy was 18 years old.

Anderson was released on $100,000 unsecured bail and faces a preliminary hearing Wednesday before Brenneman.

Starting at $3.83/week.
