Spring Cove appoints new addition to school board

ROARING SPRING — The Spring Cove School Board appointed Samantha Snowberger as school board member Monday evening.

Snowberger will fill the seat vacated by former board president James Butler, who resigned from during the board’s November meeting, until the next school board election.

A member of the Central High School Class of 1997, Snowberger holds a bachelor’s in psychology from Lock Haven University, a master’s in clinical mental health counseling from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and a master’s certification in addiction from Capella University.

A mother of two children in the district, Snowberger volunteers with the Dragon Pride Foundation and sits on the board of the Faith and Grace Learning Center.

Board member Troy Wright nominated Snowberger to the seat, with John Biddle seconding.

During the discussion period, Wright said Snowberger’s background in mental health and the fact that she applied to be on the school board previously contributed to his decision to nominate her.

“She did apply last time and has come to every meeting since, which I think shows dedication,” Wright said.

A straw poll to try to narrow down the three candidates for the seat showed that Snowberger would receive the minimum five votes needed to be appointed. During the official vote, Snowberger was appointed with a 6-2 vote, with members Linda Smith and Chuck Gojmerac voting no.

“I’m pretty excited,” Snowberger said. “I must say, I was a little shocked. Everyone spoke so well and had good points.”

Snowberger will serve on the board’s education and finance and legal committees.

In other matters, the board appointed Brian Gahagan as its president, filling the position vacated by Butler.
